Hey Reader, Not everything that is important carries the exact same weight. For a long time, I treated every request, every opportunity, and every expectation as if it had the exact same urgency. If someone asked for my time or attention, I said yes—mostly out of a fear of disappointing people or hurting feelings. The reality is, when you operate that way, you end up yes-ing your way out of your own life. Slowly yet surely, I’ve had to use extreme prejudice when deciding what gets a "yes" and what gets a "not right now." And honestly, that boundary starts at home with my own kids. With my youngest son, when he wants to play video games while I need to meal prep or pull things together for the next day, I don't give a flat "no." I give him a sequence: "We do this first, then we do that." It builds structure while protecting the tasks that keep our household running. With my oldest daughter, who is navigating high school and extracurriculars, I’ve learned that I don't need to be present for every single second to be a great mom. I ask her where she really wants me to be. She is very pointed about what actually matters to her, which allows me to show up 100% for the moments that count instead of drowning in performative presence. Every single "yes" you give carries a real cost. When you say yes to something out of obligation, you are automatically saying no to something. Sometimes this can be your energy, your time, or your peace. Take an inventory of your plate today. Are you holding onto commitments out of fear or guilt? You have permission to weigh your requests. Protect what matters most so you can show up fully where it actually counts...including you and your dreams. Or, give yourself space and time to figure it out! Talk soon, LCJ P.S. Today’s email is sponsored, but I’d love to hear from you directly. Are you holding onto any "yeses" right now that are draining your time? Hit reply and let me know. I read every single message. |
