It still counted.

Hey Reader,

Okay, so, for a minute there I actually caught a break.

My daughter got her license (finally), which meant the daily driving-lesson and family “Uber” hustle just... stopped. I felt room open up in my schedule for the first time in weeks. I was not mad about it.

On Tuesday, we ended up at the vet, and it was one of those moments where somebody looks at you and says "your call," and you have to decide what’s next. He needed emergency surgery and we said yes. He's home now, and I'm on meds-and-monitoring duty, checking on him every couple hours. Also, making sure our little chihuahua leaves him alone. She does a lot!

In the midst of this, Mikey had a huge milestone. He walked to his class without an escort. This was definitely worth celebrating.

Here's what I almost let myself believe yesterday. That the relief didn't count anymore. That simply because resistance showed back up so fast, the break I caught was cancelled.

Mikey heading to class unassisted is still worth celebrating. The relief was real. My daughter driving herself is still true today. The room that opened up in my schedule actually opened up, even if something else moved in to fill it. Resistance coming back does not erase the relief that came before it. They are not fighting for the same spot. Both can exist.

I think a lot of us do this. We let the hard thing cancel out the good thing, like only one of them is allowed to be real. But you are allowed to hold both. You got the time break. Now you are handling the surgery. Both are true.

So today I am not reaching for a brand new plan. I am reaching for what I already know works, and I am doing it without letting yesterday's relief get demoted to "I guess that didn't count."

It counted. This still counts too.

Today's 5 Daily Anchors: The Basics Reset

When resistance is high, run through your 5 core checkpoints:

  • Faith: Anchor your mind in God's Word today. Open your journal, write out a simple verse, and let His truth quiet the noise.
  • Move: Have you moved your body today? Even five minutes of physical motion breaks the weight of stress in your nervous system.
  • Build: Ask yourself: What is one small thing I can build or accomplish today despite the chaos? Keep it tiny and attainable.
  • Connect: Lean on your village. Share the load with a friend or partner instead of carrying the resistance in isolation.
  • Reflect (Journal Prompt): What basic habit have I let slide during this stressful week that I need to reclaim today?

Hit reply, I actually want to know how you're holding up.
